Our Instructors

The instructors at Zentokan Dojo are passionate about studying and sharing the art of Japanese swordsmanship. They continue to deepen their individual practice by training extensively throughout the United States and Japan.

Each of our instructors deepens their training by pursuing related studies like nihonto (日本刀 / traditionally-made Japanese swords), Japanese language (日本語 ), and shodo (書道 / calligraphy), and some of us hold rank in complementary budo like Aikido (合気道). Our instructors have also won prizes in major American and Japanese tournaments.

Battodo is a way.

There is commitment and there is obligation.
Do not abuse or misuse the art of battodo.
Study carefully, honestly, and humbly.
Respect your seniors.
Take care of your juniors.
